If you're like me, you have a hard time finding ways to encourage your man when he needs it. I'm often at a loss for words when I'm desperate to find the right ones to cheer up my husband. Or I feel like I'm saying the same things and they just let up.
Since my husband is in the military, there are things I can't know. When you're having a rough day, it's hard to know how to specifically encourage you without knowing exactly what's going on. This brings a whole new level of not knowing how to animate.
But thank the Lord for His wonderful words because They are always there when I have nothing to say or need more than my words to cheer me up. I always love when the perfect verse for my husband comes up and I can quickly text him to encourage him. It's like God saying, "Here, this is exactly what you need now."
It's hard to pick just 21 verses out of 31,102 verses, but I find these verses very encouraging.
Encouraging verses about being strengthened
Psalm 10:17 – “Lord, you hear the longing of the poor; you will strengthen his heart.”
Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who hope in the Lord shall have renewed strength; they will lift wings like eagles; they will run and not tire; they will walk and not tire.”
Romans 8:26 – “So also the Spirit helps us in our weakness. Because we don't know what to ask for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groans."
1 Peter 5:8-10 – “Be sober; be alert Your adversary the devil roams like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him with firm faith, knowing that your brotherhood is experiencing the same sufferings around the world. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore you, strengthen you, strengthen you, and establish you.
Encouraging verses about being comforted
Psalm 23:1-4 – “The Lord is my shepherd; I won't be missing anything. He lets me rest in green pastures. He leads me to still waters. He restores my soul. He will lead me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even if I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no harm, for you will be with me; your staff and your staff comfort me.
2 Corinthians 1:3-6 – “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our afflictions, that we may comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we partake richly in the sufferings of Christ, so we partake richly in consolation through Christ. When we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; And if we are comforted, it is for your comfort that comes from patiently enduring the same sufferings that we suffer.
Encouraging verses about feeling God's peace
John 16:33 – “I have told you these things so that you may have peace in me. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I conquered the world."
Philippians 4:6-7 – “Anxious for nothing, but in everything let your requests be made known before God with prayer and supplication and thanksgiving. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Encouraging verses about knowing God is with you
Joshua 1:9 – “Be strong and courageous. Do not fear and fear not, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
James 4:7-8 – “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you."
Romans 8:37-39 – “No, in all things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities, neither present nor future, neither power nor height nor depth, nor anything in all creation can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
Encouraging verses about joy
Romans 5:3-5 – “More than that, we boast in our sufferings, because we know that suffering breeds patience, and patience breeds character, and character breeds hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit given to us."
Romans 12:12 – “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be steadfast in prayer.”
James 1:2-3: "Rejoice greatly, my brethren, when you are in trials of various kinds, for you know that the trial of your faith produces steadiness."
1 Peter 4:13 – “Rather, as you share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, that you also may rejoice and rejoice at the revelation of his glory.”
Other encouraging verses
Psalm 55:22 – “Cast your burdens on the Lord, and he will sustain you.”
Proverbs 27:17 - "Iron sharpens iron, and man sharpens man.".....I put this on my list because there is nothing better than you and your man improving each other. This is a great verse to show him that you are there for him too, that you are both in this together and that he is not alone.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 – “There is a time for everything, and there is a time for everything under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die; time to plant and time to uproot what has been planted; a time to kill and a time to heal; time to destroy and time to build; time to cry and time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance; A time to throw stones, a time to collect stones; a time to hug and a time not to hug; a time to seek and a time to lose; a time to keep and a time to throw away; a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to be silent and a time to speak; time to love and time to hate; A time for war and a time for peace."
Ecclesiastes 3:11 - "He made all things beautiful in their time."
Colossians 3:23 - "Whatever you do, do it from the heart, as for the Lord and not for men."..... This may not sound like your average pep talk, but it comes from a personal experience with my husband. Whether your husband is in the military or not, he probably has a full-time job that can be difficult for him at times. Sharing this verse with him is a good reminder that he works for the Lord first and not for men. Hopefully this will bring you the peace of being able to work with your Spirit on the Lord instead of dealing with the difficulties of work or those around you at your place of work.
1 Peter 5:7 - "Cast all your anxieties on him, for he cares for you".
